VERSATROL M resin reduces fluid loss in both API and HPHT oil-based muds while improving emulsion stability, thermal stability, and suspension characteristics. It increases viscosity, particularly at lower temperatures, due to its partial solubility. Recommended concentrations range from 2 to 8 Ibm/bbl, with occasional daily additions in the 0.25 to 0.5 Ibm/bbl range. Higher concentrations up to 10 Ibm/bbl are necessary for high-temperature situations. When adding to existing systems, it can be introduced at any time with slow mixing during a complete circulation. Pilot testing is advised for desired results and mud property changes. VERSATROL M’s softening point enables its use in sealing low-pressure and depleted formations across a wide temperature range.
